Ann Roberts I am a native of Albany. Most of my life has centered around being a musician.

Starting piano at 9, I completed nine levels

of classical piano upon graduation from high school at Marylrose Academy. I earned a BS in Music Ed and an MS in Music ED from The College of Saint Rose.

I have taught piano for many years, performed in commercial dance bands in the 70's, and held the position of Music Director at Unity Church in Albany for 16 years. I began my study of Art ten years ago at Sage College in Albany, finishing

a BFA in Painting in 2006. Without a strong

technical background in painting, and with a desire to be expressive, my own style emerged as an abstract figurative painter.

I like to create texture, often using a palette knife to paint, and color harmony

to unify my work. With the paintbrush I have a painterly approach. I am drawn to the Abstract Expressionist era in art, and

collect John Grillo's work.

Being a two time survivor of breast cancer,

painting has played a role in healing for me. My keystone work, "Birdwoman", in the photo above, is an expression of my heart and soul, my feelings around having the disease and its impact on my life.

I am very excited to be a part of the ever-expanding art scene in Albany now that I

have finished my studies at Sage. I enjoyed my years there very much.

I plan on continuing to evolve as an artist,

and I will be starting expressive arts workshops in my finished basement when it is finished. I am interested in Spirituality

and this is reflected in my work.
