Christoph Speenburgh Christoph Speenburgh is a painter from Albany, New York, he is of Austrian, Irish and Scottish descent. His work is primarily a mix of social realism, figurative and portraiture.

Speenburgh was born in the midst of the social upheaval of the 1960's, and had what can be described as a nomadic childhood, living in numerous states. At age five he started drawing under the tutelage of an uncle, himself an artist, and was painting in oils as early as age 12. By age 17 the yearning for adventure overcame the young artist and he enlisted in the military, serving nearly six years before a parachute accident ended his career. Speenburgh marks the late 1990s as significant in that around that time he felt the overwhelming desire to pass his life using his creative intelligence to study human aesthetics and document the human condition. In the following years he studied formally at the Art Students League of New York, the Vancouver Drawing Society as well as engaging in self study in museums across North America and Europe. Among his many influences he lists the artists of the Neue Sachlichkeit, such as Christian Schad and Rudolf Schlichter; other influences include Egon Schiele, Balthasar Klossowski de Rola ( Balthus ), Jan Saudek, Gottfried Helnwein, Horst Janssen, the poet Charles Bukowski, and author Hans Fallada.
