Heather Brown I am a homegrown artist interested in creating beauty.

**************************************

In her art, Heather Blossom Brown employs strong lines and bold colors. Her work has been described as Fauvist and Symbolic. Each piece is a strong emotional expression reflecting beauty, often showing solitude, thought, and the human condition.

Heather began drawing when she was 16 years of age. Hailing from the Catskill Mountains, Heather found the joy of art when her emotions were running high and when she needed to express what she was struggling to define. "My greatest art lesson was given to me by my mother when I first started drawing," she explained. "I was struggling with one piece and my mother told me, 'Just draw what you see'. To this day, her simple statement has been my most important lesson." Particularly fond of paying close attention to detail, Heather's favorite mediums are inks, acrylics, and oils.

Although always drawing throughout the years, Heather started to create more actively while in graduate school as a way to feed her artistic desire while her hectic schedule was filled with school and work. Heather found the ease of being able to paint in her spare off hours a liberating way to ground and express herself.

Heather is a self-taught artist, which she considers a curse at times, and a blessing at others. Her approach is to remain as organic as possible, solely devoted to whatever inspirations come to mind. "For me, art is therapeutic. It keeps me grounded and allows me time to think while exploring an avenue in which to express myself." Heather spends a lot of time researching artists from the past to the present. Her favorite artists range from masters such as Van Gogh, the blue period of Picasso, and Gustav Klimt, to modern day artists such as Kelly Vivanco and Carson Ellis. Stylistically, her greatest inspiration comes from ancient Egyptian murals and Medieval paintings, while employing the color palette of Van Gogh.
