Jessica Harrington is a recent graduate of the University at Albany. Double majoring in art history and art, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in May of 2009. She has lived in the Capital District her entire life and grew up in Duanesburg. Her work, both writing and visual arts, are based on the concepts of aesthetics and beauty within art and life. Her pieces often confront the viewer with an image that is quote unquote not beautiful but allows for a challenge of popular conceptions to be made of the subject. Often her work acts on the satirical notions of communal convenience as well as challenging the viewer to question why and how they recognize beauty as an individual in society. Thus their impulse to evaluate such an idea is typically based on personal aesthetic values. Jessica openly invites her audience to critically examine the world around them and ask: What is beauty?
